Full Description
A pit (27002) was found in the southern half of Trench 27 of the evaluation excavation of the Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme route in 2012. This oval pit had bulging concave sides and irregular base about 1.7m wide and 0.4m deep. It contained three fills, primary fill 27003, secondary fill 27004 and a final fill 27005 whose composition suggested the pit had been deliberately backfilled. A single rimsherd was recovered from fill 27005 of fine flint-tempered fabric which suggested a late prehistoric date. It appears to have been truncated by lynchet 27006. [3]
The record for this monument has been created with support from Wessex Water.
