One of a group of pits in an alignment on the crest of a ridge, and interpreted as forming the northern boundary of an early Iron Age settlement.

Full Description

Pit 7246 was 1.50m in diameter and 0.53m deep, with vertical sides and a flat base. It had a single fill of dark brown humic silt flecked with charcoal and containing pieces of limestone, some burnt. Pottery (15 sherds) in the fill included fragments of oolitic fabrics and red-finished ware, and a piece of shouldered jar in sandy ware. Fragments of cattle humerus and femur were also found. {1}
