Summary

A public house. The main part is nineteenth century. An eighteenth-century range on the north-east side of the house was fomerly a stable or coach house, but has been incorporated into the main dwelling. The walls of the 19th century building are rendered whilst those of the 18th century range are rubble, and retain traces of blocked coach house doorways.

Full Description

Inn (listed as Stapleton Arms by DOE) of two storeys, comprises buildings of two dates. The main range is of the 19th century and has a rendered north west front with central doorway and Roman-Doric porch; the extremities of this façade are marked by pilasters. Adjacent on the north east is an 18th century range, originally a stable or coach house. <2-3>

'(9) INN (75652462), comprises buildings of two dates. The main range is of the 19th century and has rendered N.W. front of three bays, with a central doorway under a Roman-Doric porch, flanked by three-sided bay windows, and with sashed windows in the upper storey; the extremities of this façade are marked by pilasters. Adjacent, on the N.E., is an 18th century range, originally a stable or coach-house, but now incorporated in the dwelling;the rubble walls retain traces of former coach-house doorways.'
