Summary

The early mill is a narrow north-south aligned building now apparently of 4 storeys. It is built of rubble stone with wooden lintels. It appears to have been lowered and has a corrugated-iron belfast roof. To the northeast is a mid- or late-19th century brick extension. Immediately to the northwest is square stone column that was syphon tower for a large waterwheel. East of these is a tall rubble stone building, recently altered. Modern buildings adjoining the main mill incorporate probable mid to late 19th century low buildings of coursed brick and rubble stone. To the south of the mill yard is a north-south range, now rendered, comprising 3 two-storeyed cottages with a 3-storeyed warehouse at the south end. The cottage at the north end is an addition.

‘The early mill is a narrow building, aligned north-south, of 6 bays and now apparently of 4 storeys. It is built of rubble stone with wooden lintels. The building appears to have been lowered and has a corrugated-iron belfast roof. To the northeast is a mid- or late-19th century brick extension. Immediately to the northwest is square stone column, like a short chimney, that was syphon tower to feed a large waterwheel. To east of these structures is tall rubble stone building, which has been recently altered. Modern buildings adjoin the main mill building to the south. To the southeast these incorporate probable mid to late 19th century low buildings, with walls of coursed brick and rubble stone, with segmental-arched brick openings, stone quoins, and tiled roofs. To the south of the mill yard is a north-south range, now rendered, comprising 3 two-storeyed cottages with a 3-storeyed warehouse at the south end. The cottage at the north end is an addition. To the north of mill is large pond with at least 2 leats at a higher level to the east.’
