Summary

Romano-British settlement first observed around 1870 when the downland was converted to arable and it was seen after ploughing that 'the discoloration of soil consequent on human occupation extends around for many acres'. Pits were observed and finds included pottery, oyster shells, animal bones, two brooches, and coins of Allectus and Constantine II. Aerial photographs show the settlement set within an expanse of prehistoric fields and trackways. The field system was digitally recorded from lidar imagery and aerial photographs and was digitally recorded during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM.
