Full Description

A round barrow on the road to Fontmell Magna near Washer's Pit was demolished about 1840, whilst a new road was being made. The bones it contained were buried in the church yard. Sited by Grinsell and RCHM at ST 897168. Listed by Grinsell under bowl barrows. <1-3>

The name 'Washers Pit' probably applies to a dry pond at ST 89701677, a low lying position at the junction of three valleys, and an unusual barrow situation. No trace of a barrow was found. The surrounding high ground was perambulated but no feature of archaeological significance was noted. <4>
