Full Description

Parts of D/R urn with burnt bones probably from this site in DCM. (Grinsell)
AP 1934.3076

('A' SY 75878828, 'B' SY 75898821, 'C' SY 76038805) Tumulus (NR) (Three Times). (1)

Three barrows destroyed by gravel quarrying before 1954. (4)

'C' - This barrow was destroyed by gravel digging in 1935-6, but was excavated by some persons prior to its destruction. Some urns were found, which I believe were sent to Dorchester Museum. Barrows 'B' &'A' were probably destroyed during the recent war, when an airfield was constructed at Woodsford Heath. (2)

Fragment of a Late Bronze Age cinerary urn and burnt bones from a barrow at Warmwell Pit presented to the Dorset County Museum - acc No 1936.89.1 - by Major Foster, Warmwell (3.1).

'A' This barrow has been destroyed, its site being occupied by a pillbox of the airfield defences. (The airfield is now disused, and under the plough).

'B' Destroyed; this barrow has been gravelled away. In view of authority 3a, it seems probable that the Late Bronze Age urn fragment in the Dorset County Museum came from this barrow, but Mr Hodder
thought that more than one urn was found when the excavation took place. Major Foster of Warmwell is now deceased. (3)

'A' - SY 75878829 - Warmwell 2.
'B' - SY 75898821 - Warmwell 3.
'C' - SY 76048804 - Warmwell 4.

Three bowl barrows listed, as Authy 2. (5,7)
