Full Description

Group of five barrows on Pound Hill: 'E' (Winterbourne Steepleton No 59) SY 62439085 (?) Ditched bowl barrow, about 70ft diameter and 1 1/2ft high. A circular soil-mark suggesting a ditch about 100ft in diameter appears on air photograph. <2> <4>

'E'. SY 62469083. Bowl barrow, diameter 18.0 metres, approximately, height 1.0 metres. Ploughed down. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <6>

A possible hengiform enclosure or barrow of Neolithic or Bronze Age origin is visible as three concentirc ring ditches on aerial photographs. The outer-most ring ditch is approximately 30m in diameter. The two innner ring ditches are 18m and 11m in diameter, respectively. They may all be contemporary with one another or the result of separate phases of construction of the monument, such as the re-use or adoption of a Neolithic monument in the Bronze Age. <9-12>
