Site of a probable Bronze Age bowl barrow, recorded as an extant mound by RCHM and also visible as an earthwork and a cropmark on aerial photographs

Full Description

Group of round barrows: … `B` Bowl barrow 50 yards north north west of `A`, 23 feet in diameter by 1 1/2 feet high. <2>

`B` SY 61678891. Ploughed-down barrow, diameter 7.0m. Height 0.6m. `B`, `D` and `F` re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <3>

Site of a possible Bronze Age bowl barrow, one of a group of several barrows situated in this area (MDO3399-403) and probably associated with the Late Bronze Age settlement earthworks (MDO3411), within which they are interspersed.

Recorded as an extant mound by RCHM <2> measuring 23ft. In diameter and 1.5ft high. Also visible as an earthwork and a cropmark on aerial photographs <5-6>, measuring approximately 8 metres in diameter. This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Barrow 12.0m diameter, 0.2m high, reduced and spread by ploughing. Large flint nodules in dark soil on top. No ditch visible. Heavily ploughed since 1980. Field regularly ploughed and used as ley pasture. 7/6/E
