Site of a probable Bronze Age bowl barrow, recorded as an extant mound by RCHM and also visible as an earthwork and a cropmark on aerial photographs

Full Description

Group of round barrows: `A` Bowl barrow 19 feet diameter by 1 foot high. <2>

`A` SY 61688886. Site marked by a soil darkening. `B`, `D` and `F` re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. Detail of `A` deleted from MSD. <3>

Site of a possible Bronze Age bowl barrow, one of a group of several barrows situated in this area (MDO3399-403) and probably associated with the Late Bronze Age settlement earthworks (MDO3411), within which they are interspersed.

Also visible as an earthwork and a cropmark on aerial photographs <5-6>, measuring approximately 8 metres in diameter. This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Vague spread of lighter brown sandy loam soil with numerous small flints was supposed to be the ploughed-out site of this barrow. This soil mark was approx. 6.0m diameter. Situated in regularly ploughed field of ley pasture. 1/6/E
