Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow, recorded as an extant mound by RCHM and also visible as a earthwork on aerial photographs. It is one of a group of barrows located on Blagdon Hill.

Full Description

(Centred SY 621879). the 'Gaythorne Group' of barrows is situated on naturally hillocky heath, now largely arable, making it uncertain which rises are barrows. 'C', 'D', 'E' and 'G', described below, are all under grass.
'E' Probable bowl barrow 2 1/2 high. Ploughed. <3-4>

'E'. SY 62188806. Bowl barrow, diameter 30.0m and height 1.2m. In arable. No visible ditch. Of this group of mounds only 'E' is certainly indentifiable now, as a barrow. 'C', 'D', 'E' and 'G' re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <5>

A Bronze Age bowl barrow, recorded by RCHM <4> as an extant mound, about 2.5ft. High which has been ploughed.

It is also visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs <8-9> measuring approximately 10 metres in diameter, and was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project. It is one of a group of potential barrows located on Blagdon Hill (MDO3421-4 & MDO3376-9).
