Full Description

(Centred SY 621879). the 'Gaythorne Group' of barrows is situated on naturally hillocky heath, now largely arable, making it uncertain which rises are barrows. 'C', 'D', 'E' and 'G', described below, are all under grass.

'C' Probable bowl barrow. An elongated and irregular mound about 2 feet high. <3-4>

'C' SY 62118797. An irregular, oval-shaped mound, very mutilated and truncated on the north by a road. It measures 29.0m. by 18.0m and 0.7m. average height; there is no visible ditch. Possibly a barrow but not certainly so. Of this group of mounds only 'E' is certainly indentifiable now, as a barrow. 'C', 'D', 'E' and 'G' re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <5>

It is also visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs <8> measuring approximately 14 metres in diameter, and was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project. It is one of a group of potential barrows located on Blagdon Hill (MDO3421-4 & MDO3376-9).
