Monument record MDO3374 - Bowl barrow, Winterbourne Steepleton

'A'. Bowl barrow about 40 feet diameter by 4 1/2 feet high. <4>

'A' SY 61638848. Diameter 13.0m., height 1.0m. No visible ditch. Both barrows are in arable. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <5>

Site of a possible Bronze Age bowl barrow, one of a group of two barrows situated in this area (MDO3374-5).

Also visible as a low earthwork on aerial photographs <7> measuring approximately 13 metres in diameter. This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Composed of heathland soils on clay with flints to heathland transition, numerous large flints on top and one sarsen. No visible ditch. 0.4m high and 19.0m diameter. Lies in recently ploughed field. 1/5/D
