Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow situated on Black Down. It forms part of a wider cemetery. The barrow has a mound composed of sand, gravel and turf, with maximum dimensions of 12 metres in diameter and about 0.5 metres in height. The barrow mound has been partially disturbed and has a large central hollow which may relate to partial excavations conducted by Cunnington in 1878. Surrounding the mound is a quarry ditch which has become infilled over the years and now survives as a buried feature 1.5 metres wide.

Full Description

Bowl barrow 205 yards south east of SY 68 NW 125; 42 feet diameter by 3 feet high. Much damaged by digging, with probable spoil on the north west. <1-2> <4>

SY 61148765. Bowl barrow, diameter 15.0m, height 0.8m. Interior largely excavated, leaving a narrow rim. None of the barrows has a visible ditch. Resurveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <5>
