Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow situated on the north western part of Black Down. It forms part of a wider cemetery of 16 round barrows (of which 15 survive) which forms part of the wider South Dorset Ridgeway barrow group. The barrow has a mound compsoed of sand, gravel and turf, with maximum dimensions of 12 metres in diameter and about 0.8 metres in height. Surrounding the mound is a ditch from which material was quarried during the construction of the monument. The ditch has become infilled over the years, but will survive as a buried feature 1.5 metres wide.

Bowl barrow, disturbed, 35ft diameter and 4 1/2ft high. (Grinsell's "Winterbourne Steepleton" No 31; RCHM No 16). <1> <3>

SY 60568786. Bowl barrow, diameter 12.0m, height 1.5m. Both barrows lie in arable but have not been ploughed; neither shows any visible evidence of a ditch. Resurveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <4>

12.0m diameter and 1.5m high, land grass covered with young conifers growing on and around the mound. The mound has a lumpy and uneven surface and is positioned at the top of a steep NE facing slope. 1/3/C
