Full Description

A rifle range with structures serving as shooting positions at 500, 400, 300 and 100 yards and butts to the SE is shown on the OS 1st edn 25in map (1891-2) (1) at King's Pier Hollow, Isle of Portland. A structure shown as a 'mantlet' (shelter) is shown near the butts, presumably for observation or to shelter those operating the targets. The range was shown as having been cut by a railway on the 2nd edn map (1903) (2).
