Full Description

A curving pier approximately 500m long extending from the shore E of Castletown, Portland Harbour, is shown on the OS 1st edn 25in map (1892) (1), enclosing an area of water marked as 'New Coaling Camber'. At that date it may only have been partly completed: the OS 2nd edn map (1903) (2) shows it with railway lines, an engine house, a travelling crane and other details not present on the earlier map.
