Full Description

The OS 1st edn 25in map (1889) (1) marked as a 'Coffee Tavern' a building sited on the NE side of the crossroads between the present Dorchester Road and Blandford Road North, Upton. It was presumably a temperance institution and continued to be shown as a Coffee Tavern until the OS 3rd edn 25in / 1:2500 map (1925) (2). The 4th edn map (3) marked it as 'Corner House', probably still a café. It is not shown on current OS maps. Earlier in the 19th century the building is reputed to have been a public house - the Railway Tavern - which lost its licence and became a Coffee Tavern (www.lucaonline.co.uk/2000/ump11.php)
