‘Site of Bickham Farm … The earliest known reference for Bickham is in 1268 (Mills 1980, 168), however Bickham Farm is not shown on the 1773 map (D/BKL Woodward) although buildings are shown here on the tithe map of 1847 tenanted by James Young. Bickham Lane 112,335 is shown on the 1773 map which passes two buildings before reaching the site of Bickham Farm at that time this land was part of Hogford Farm. Neither of these buildings are shown on the 1847 map. Bickham Farm is shown on the 1901 O.S. map. At that time there was a group of farm buildings and yards there, Bickham Lane had gone out of use and a new track lead to the farm to the east. All the buildings have been demolished in the last 30 years. On the site of Bickham Farm is found bricks, concrete and tiles but also occasional fragments of medieval pottery including a 12th-century rim. Bickham Common beside the River Allen to the north-west contains numerous 18th-19th century sherds also occasional medieval finds. There are no traces of the buildings beside Bickham Lane shown on the 1774 map.
Condition: The field and yard boundaries shown in 1774 and 1847 have been removed. The site lies near the centre of a large arable field.’
