Full Description
<1> Papworth M, 1997, Pamphill Parish, Kingston Lacy Estate, Wessex Region (Unpublished document). SDO13960.
Hollow-way on SE side of Bickham Copse, Hillbutts … A track described as Bickham Lane on Woodward’s survey of 1774 (D/BKL map R) led to cottages at that time and by 1847 (tithe map) it led to Bickham Farm. This track was abandoned by the time the 1938 O.S. map was surveyed. The route of the track survives as a hollow-way within Bickham Copse. The hollow-way is 5m wide and 1.5m deep. Elsewhere the route of Bickham Lane has been ploughed out. The earliest known reference to the place-name Bickham dates to 1258 (Mills 1980, 168). This trackway may have medieval origins.
