Summary

The site of plough levelled Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark penannular ring ditch on aerial photographs . It lies to the south of the southern henge of Knowlton Circles and is one of the extensive Knowlton Circles Barrow Group. The ring ditch is 10.5m across; it was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.

Full Description

A rapid examination of air photography <2-3> suggests the presence of a fourth, smaller ring ditch ('D'), visible as a cropmark at SU 0224 0956. <1>

The four round barrows described have been mapped from aerial photographs by EH's Knowlton Circles Project. Their locations and dimensions were fixed more accurately by that survey: D - SU 0224 0957; 9.8m in diameter.

These barrows are part of a much larger group of round barrows extending southwards from the Knowlton South henge. <4-5>

A plough truncated round barrow visible as a circular annular cropmark c 9m in diameter on aerial photographs dated 2005. No evidence for internal features or mound material could be discerned.
