Full Description
The cropmark of a probable Bronze Age ring ditch can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2010. This ring ditch consists of two concentric ditches and is situated to the south of Creech Hill Bungalows, east of, and cut by, Parsonage Lane.
[Note: The NRHE-to-HER database did not record any sources so the 2010 photograph referred to has not been identified. However; monument MDO40279 is only a few meters to the south and appears on the 2010 photo SDO18765 so it is possible that this is the photo being alluded to.]
A plough truncated round barrow, partly overlain on its western side by Parsonage Lane, and visible as well-defined cropmarks on aerial photographs dated 2010. The monument appears to be comprise two concentric circular ditches; a relatively narrow inner ditch of c10m diameter and a wider outer of ditch of c29m diameter. No evidence for internal features, or of mound or bank remains could be discerned.
The barrow is also visible as a cropmark on a 1997 aerial photograph <1>. The feature comprises an outer ditch 3.6m wide and truncated on its northwest side by the main road. There is a 0.7m wide inner ditch, the two ditches being around 7m apart. The feature overall has a diameter of around 35.7m.
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
