Full Description
Stourfield was built as a country seat by Edmund Bott c 1766, demolished c 1991 (Young 2015). It is reputed to have been the first country house built on the heath between Christchurch and Poole and was the centre of a 450-acre estate. The OS 1st edn 25in map (1874) shows extensive grounds and plantings around the house. The 3rd edn map (1909) marks a large building added to the S of the earlier structures, identified as 'Sanatorium'. The site has subsequently been redeveloped.
