Full Description

A flight of steps named as Toft Steps are shown mounting the cliff from the shore to the East Cliff Promenade on the OS 2nd edn 25in map (1898) (1). The 3rd edn map (1909) (2) shows the steps on a new alignment relocated approximately 70m to the E, and the 4th edn (1924) (3) again shows a change with the steps providing access to a mid-cliff walk. The Steps were replaced after WW2 (4) by a zig-zag path which is still extant (5).
