Full Description

Tennis Grounds are shown on the OS 4th edn 1:2500 map (1933) (1) in part of the Pleasure Grounds (now Central Gardens) in central Bournemouth, S of the Bourne stream. The 2nd and 3rd edn 25in / 1:2500 maps (2, 3) show defined spaces within small areas of planting on the site and it is possible that use for some form of leisure or sporting activity began earlier.
