Full Description

A flight of steps mounting the East Cliff is named as 'Meyrick Steps' on the OS 2nd edn 25in map (1898) (1). The 1st edn (1870) (2) marked the location as Steps Chine, possibly indicating that it had previously been used for access to the beach; no steps are shown, however. The 4th edn 1:2500 map (1933) (3) shows a zig-zag walk having replaced the steps.
