Summary

A late 19th and 20th century brewery, Market Street, Poole. Site of Marstons Dolphin Brewery, formerly the most important in Poole. Built in the 1740s, enlarged and modernised in the late 19th century, finishing as a 40-quarter brewery with circa 60 tied houses. In 1926 it was taken over by Strongs of Romsey, and used as a depot. It suffered some air raid damage in World War II, converted to a fork lift truck factory, and rebuilt piecemeal. The site was cleared for redevelopment in Spring 1974

Full Description

'Dolphin Brewery' is marked on a site between Market Street and West Street on OS maps from the late 19th century <1> until at least the 1930s <2>. The site has subsequently been redeveloped <3>.

The NRIM was set up by the Council for British Archaeology (CBA) in 1963 and administration was taken over by the University of Bath in 1965. Record cards for individual buildings were completed by interested parties and submitted. Sets of cards were maintained by the CBA, University of Bath (latterly the Industrial Monuments Survey) and the National Monuments Record.In 2012 the collection was updated by Heritage Data and where appropriate monuments were allocated a county designation number.
