Full Description

West and East Lakes are clearly artificial elements of the designed landscape on Brownsea Island. The OS 1st edn 25in map (1889-90) (1) shows a straight earthwork bounding the E side of West Lake, probably blocking a small valley in order to impound the lake. It was fancifully named as Rialto Bridge.
