Full Description
The place-name Morgan's Grave is shown on the tithe map (1) and OS 1st edn 25in map (1889) (2) at the junction of Sidmouth Road and Clappentail Lane on the western outskirts of Lyme Regis. It may have been the burial place of a criminal or suicide, reputedly often interred at cross roads in the post-medieval period. It has been suggested that the site may have originally been located in the corner of a field but revealed subsequently by road widening (3). A marker has been placed at the site by the Lyme Regis Society (4).
