Full Description
Five small enclosures are shown on the OS 1st edn 25in map (1889) (1) on the cliff top W of Burning Cliff. A stream is channeled through the enclosures, which are marked with the OS convention for osiers. A building is marked in the northernmost enclosure and the site was accessed by a track from Ringstead. This is likely to be a withy bed supplying material for basketry, perhaps principally for use in making pots for local fishermen. The site is shown in similar form on the OS 2nd edn 25in map (2) but is not shown on post World War II mapping (3).
