Full Description

Two earthwork embankments SE of Salterns Copse are shown on the 1st edn 25in map (1890) (1) with a complex of drainage channels. This map shows them enclosing an area of marsh, but subsequent editions show the enclosed land as rough pasture or as improved. The embankments were probably intended to prevent marine incursion from Middlebere Lake as part of a drainage and reclamation scheme.
