Map

Type and Period (1)

Full Description

Two buildings, probably dwellings, are shown in enclosures on the tithe map (1) and later OS mapping (2). The settlement was located on (and had evidently been enclosed from) the open heath and lay about 200m from the head of a tidal creek. Current OS mapping shows the site as Greenland Cottage. The site lies adjacent to tracks across Newton Heath and may have been associated with grazing or other heathland uses, and / or with fishing or other maritime activities.
