Full Description

Possible plough levelled long barrow on North Tarrant Hinton Down, visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs dated 1947, 2005 and 2009/ The monument is aligned approximately north-south and was seen as two near-parallel (slightly divergent) flanking ditches, both approximately 43-45m long and up to c4m wide. At the north end, the flanking ditches are set some 17m apart, whilst at the southern end the separation is c22m. Between the ditches, there is a zone of slightly chalkier soil which might indicate remnant mound material.

The monument has not been archaeologically tested, but if correctly identified, it forms the most northerly known member of a loosely associated group of long barrows ranged along the Blandford Downs east of Pimperne. Pimperne Long Barrow lies 1.5km to the south west; Telegraph Clump Long Barrow lies 2.5km to the SSW; Race Down Long Barrow is 3.1km to the SSE, and a long barrow near Ashley Wood lies c5.3km to the south.
