Full Description
Opened 1883 primary deposit of two inhumations and a degenerate type A beaker beneath central cairn, in the upper part of which was a secondary cremation. Immediately above this cairn was a cremation in a broken urn 8 inches high. In the material within a foot of the surface of the barrow were about ten intrusive skeletons <1>.
Ditched Bowl Barrow (SY 65748894) - ploughed almost flat. V.A.P. CPE/UK 1934, 3089 shows double ring ditches, 80 ft. and 40 ft. in diam. Opened in 1883 by Cunnington who found central cairn covering two inhumations and an 'A' beaker (now in D.C.M.). Cremation in top of cairn and another in broken urn above. About ten inhumations, possibly Romano-British, lay 1 ft. below surface. <1> <3>
SY 65748895. Bowl barrow in arable, ploughed land. Diameter approximately 44.0m, height 1.7m. No visible ditch. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <4>
Visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs <7>. Air photos show the barrow has two concentric ditches. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
