Monument record MDO3235 - Clandon Hill Barrow, Winterborne St Martin

Possible ditched bowl barrow, ploughed almost flat. On aerial photos it shows double ring ditches, 80ft. amd 40ft. in diam. Opened in 1883 by Cunnington who found a central cairn covering two inhumations and an 'A' Beaker. Cremation in top of cairn and another broken urn above. About 10 inhumations, possibly Romano-British, lay about a foot below the surface.

Opened 1883 primary deposit of two inhumations and a degenerate type A beaker beneath central cairn, in the upper part of which was a secondary cremation. Immediately above this cairn was a cremation in a broken urn 8 inches high. In the material within a foot of the surface of the barrow were about ten intrusive skeletons <1>.

SY 65748895. Bowl barrow in arable, ploughed land. Diameter approximately 44.0m, height 1.7m. No visible ditch. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <4>

Visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs <7>. Air photos show the barrow has two concentric ditches. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
