Full Description

The tithe apportionment (1) records a field-name S of Langton Herring as Fox Barrow, possibly indicating the site of a Bronze Age barrow. However, the OS 1st edn 25in map (2) shows extensive remains of post-medieval quarrying in the wider vicinity and the 'barrow' element in the field name could refer to spoil dumps of quarry waste or overburden.
