A metalled road runs from the Burton Bradstock - Swyre road (B3157) down the coastal slope to the rear of Chesil Beach. It is locally said to date from WW2, constructed to carry shingle for use in building wartime defences. (Anonymous National Trust warden, 14 April 2014.)
