Full Description
The promenade at West Bay was constructed in 1887 (Atterbury 2003) on the west side of the harbour mouth. The 1:25-inch scale Ordnance Survey map published in 1902 shows it extending for 250m behind the shore with two associated shelters.

'There is a foundation stone along the esplanade stating that "This esplanade was constructed therewith in the jubilee year of the reign of Queen Victoria 1887". Unfortunately this inscription now is almost impossible to read and is in such a poor state. ... Next year will mark 140 year anniversary of its construction.'
