Full Description
The Salisbury and Dorset Junction Railway was incorporated in 1861 to connect the Salisbury - Romsey line at Alderbury Junction (SU 196274) to the Southampton and Dorchester Railway (linear 308) at West Moors Station (SU 082033) a distance of 19 miles. It originally comprised of a single track and was opened in 1866, operated by London and South Western Railway. It operated for a while as a through route to Bournemouth during the summer holiday seasons. It was closed in 1964 and is now dismantled. (1)
