A possible post medieval extractive pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s in the centre of Chaldon Herring. The pit is sub-rectangular and measures 6 m by 5 m. (1) The pit is not visible on the most recent comprehensive photography available to the project. (2) This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
