Full Description

A scattered area of post medieval chalk pits is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s on Moigns Down. The quarries are formed of pits and banks of spoil, visible over an area measuring approximately 820 m by 260 m. (1-3) One of the quarries in the east of the area is visible on aerial photographs of 2002. (2) Four of the quarries are marked on the 1st ed OS map. (3) This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
