Monument record MDO3215 - Bowl Barrow in the Third Milestone Group, Winterborne St Martin

Site of a Bronze Age bowl barrow visible as a cropmark ring ditch on aerial photographs. It forms part of a wider group of round barrows running in an irregular east-west line on the crest of a ridge immediately south of the A35.

Three bowl barrows near the third milestone from milestone from Dorchester were examined by Grinsell in 1954. 'B' - SY 64319035. Bowl barrow, 15 paces diameter and 1 ft high. <1>

'B' - (115) - SY 64319034. Bowl (?) barrow, ploughed almost flat. <3>

SY 643904. Three round barrows south of Hart Hill Plantation. Scheduled. (See SY 69 SW 72 for probable excavation of some of these
barrows). <4>

Barrows 'B', 'D' and 'E' ploughed out. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <5>

Part of a barrow cemetery. In 1981 the Ordnance Survey noted no visible surface traces. It had previously been described by RCHME as having been ploughed almost flat.

Still visible as an even swelling 0.2m high viewed from the road. The field is regularly ploughed and in ley pasture. 1/6/E
