Summary

Site of a Bronze Age bowl barrow visible as a cropmark ring ditch on aerial photographs. It forms part of a wider group of round barrows running in an irregular east-west line on the crest of a ridge immediately south of the A35.

Full Description

Three bowl barrows near the third milestone from milestone from Dorchester were examined by Grinsell in 1954. 'B' - SY 64319035. Bowl barrow, 15 paces diameter and 1 ft high. <1>

'B' - (115) - SY 64319034. Bowl (?) barrow, ploughed almost flat. <3>

SY 643904. Three round barrows south of Hart Hill Plantation. Scheduled. (See SY 69 SW 72 for probable excavation of some of these
barrows). <4>

Barrows 'B', 'D' and 'E' ploughed out. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <5>

Part of a barrow cemetery. In 1981 the Ordnance Survey noted no visible surface traces. It had previously been described by RCHME as having been ploughed almost flat.
