A post medieval chalk pit is visible as a very low earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the south west of Down Barn, Chaldon Herring. The pit measures approximately 12 m by 9 m. (1) This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
