1Three probable post medieval to modern chalk pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs to the south east of Chaldon Herring. The pits measure between 12 m by 10 m and 36 m by 30 m. (1-2) These features were digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
