Full Description
An extensive group of small irregular pits are visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and 1970 to the northwest of Sleight Buildings. They are considered to be the result of post medieval chalk quarrying although a natural or prehistoric origin cannot be ruled out. They lie within the celtic field system decribed in MDO8311. (1-2). The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. The features have been plough-levelled and only partially visible on the most recent Google Earth imagery.
