Summary

A dispersed scatter of small hollows and mounds are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and 1970 in fields to north and northwest of West Down Farm. They are considered to be the result of post medieval chalk quarrying. They lie within the celtic field system described in MDO8313 and in the vicinity of the pits described in MDO31914.

Full Description

A dispersed scatter of small hollows and mounds are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and 1970 in fields to north and northwest of West Down Farm. They are considered to be the result of post medieval chalk quarrying. They lie within the celtic field system described in MDO8313 They lie within the celtic field system described in MDO8313 and in the vicinity of the pits described in MDO31914 (1-2). The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. The features have since been plough-levelled and partially visible as cropmarks on the most recent Google Earth imagery.
