Summary

A linear series of small hollows are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 running NW-SE along a natural hollow to the northwest of West Down Farm. They are considered to be the result of post medieval chalk quarrying although prehistoric origin cannot be ruled out. They lie within the celtic field system described in MDO8313.

Full Description

A linear series of small hollows are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 running NW-SE along a natural hollow to the northwest of West Down Farm. They are considered to be the result of post medieval chalk quarrying although prehistoric origin cannot be ruled out. They lie within the celtic field system described in MDO8313 (1). The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. The features are no longer visible on the most recent Google Earth imagery.
