Two 'Old Chalk Pits' are marked at this location on the OS 1st Edition map. The features were visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946. (1) and are still extant on recent Google Earth imagery. The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
