Two post medieval to modern sand and gravel pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the south west of Crossways. The pits are in the area now covered by the Warmwell Country Touring Park. The pits measured approximately 212 m by 85 m and 66 m by 44 m. (1-2) This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
