Full Description

An area of medieval or post medieval extractive pits is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946 to the north west of Heatherdale Farm, Warmwell. They vary in size and are visible over an area measuring approximately 270 m by 80 m. (1) The pits appear to have been levelled at a later date and do not appear as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010. (2) An old gravel pit is marked on the 1st edition OS map imediately to the east of the pits (see MDO23721) and they may be an extension of an earlier area of extraction. (3) This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
