A dispersed group of small hollows are visible as low earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1945-6 on Povington Heath (1-2). They are potentially post medieval extractive pits. The underlying geology is clay. Some of the features are still visible on recent Google Earth imagery; they were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
